Waterproof mittens/gloves Thin glove/mitten liners Snow boots A large, plastic tote for the trunk of parent's car, so that all messy gear can be contained at pickup time (optional) I understand that my child is expected to be fully prepared for playing outside for any weather above 10 degrees. If I have neglected to prepare my child with suitable gear, I understand they may be turned away from class for the day. * I agree Class is held outdoors every day, except for when there is dangerous air quality, thunder or lightning, "feels like" temperatures below 10 degrees, or other dangerous condition or emergency. Between 10 and 30 degrees, we typically have class for 1-2 hours outside, and then go inside for the 3rd hour, depending on how well prepared the entire class is, and how they are handling the weather. * I agree I understand that Spring and Fall are very muddy seasons. At pickup time, I expect my child to be dirty, and celebrate when they are. This means they have had fun, and learned through messy sensory play. * I agree Daily checklist of backpack items * Light snack Fresh water in water bottle One change of clothing, including socks and underwear Diapers and wipes if applicable Hodge House Outdoor Playschool learning style is 90% child led, spontaneous, and non academic. Learning will happen, but it will not be done with worksheets, flashcards, or teacher led methods. The play itself is the learning, and my job as the teacher is to set up a proper environment and supplies, and to witness and document that learning. Below is a list of the most common types of play in our outdoor classroom. * Risky play - including climbing trees, balancing on logs and stone walls, playing with sticks, hiding behind fences and bushes, running fast, and more. Messy play - including mud, slime, play dough, chalk, glue, paint and more. Social play - including bickering with peers, pretend family play, play fighting and more. Academic play - counting games, color matching, singing songs, and more. 10% of the day is teacher led, which includes our daily morning gathering and wrap up time. Occasionally, a teacher led, goal oriented project is offered to students, usually coinciding with holiday times. These are still largely led by the child's creativity, but will occasionally include step by step instructions which is the main skill that teacher led projects enhance. My teaching style is inspired by Waldorf, Reggio, Montessori and RIE. All of these philosophies are considered child led, and highly emotionally responsive. Discipline during student conflict includes social and emotional coaching, and zero punishments, which is well proven to be the most effective way to teach preschool age children. * I agree If you agree to all of these policies and procedures, and would like to enroll your child into our program for the days specified above, please date and submit your contract now. * MM DD YYYY Thank you! I have received your contract. I will use it to create your Brightwheel account, and confirm your child’s start date.
